There are two types of Fluorescent Fitting available in the market and are widely used, namely T8 and T5.

T8 type lights have been widely used in our country especially on residential premises since the early 80’s. The light emitted is either a daylight white or a warm light

For this purpose, the use of T5 type Lights instead of T8 has been implemented over time whether for new or existing electrical installations (through maintenance costs) due to the power savings of up to 65% as well as higher lumens rates compared to T8 type lamps.

Technically, the T5 type lamps are electric ballast (choke) and the T8 type lamps are magnetic ballast (choke).

However, the cost of T5 type lamps is about 25% to 40% more expensive than T8 type lamps depending on the quality of manufacture and manufacturers such as Phillips, OSRAM, GEC and so on.

The physical difference between the T5 and T8 lamps is that they are slightly thinner (slim) and make sure you read the T5 or T8 labels on the lamp tube before buying them.

Therefore, you as an electric user are encouraged to use a T5 type lamp for the purpose of prudent electricity usage and long-term electricity consumption.
